Bob Buford to Receive

2005 Christian Management Award

Bob Buford, chairman of the board of The Buford Foundation, best-selling author of Halftime and Finishing Well, and the founder and chairman of Leadership Network, Dallas, Texas, is the recipient of Christian Management Association's 2005 Christian Management Award-fifteen years after his mentor Peter Drucker who is often called "the father of modern management."

For decades Bob Buford has been behind the scenes of American Christianity working to accomplish the mission statement his friend and mentor Peter Drucker helped him establish-to transform the latent energy in American Christianity into active energy.  Drucker's prompting and mentorship have fueled Bob's mission as he launched entrepreneurial organizations, written books, and influenced hundreds-of-thousands of individuals to live lives of significance.  (read more about Bob: www.ACTIVEenergy.net)

Because the name recognition of the leaders Bob has influenced over the years often overshadows his own recognition he is heard repeating a sentiment that is part of who he is today, "my fruit grows on other people's branches and that is fine with me."

"Winning this award from the Christian Management Association is truly an honor." says Buford, "CMA is a world class organization with societal influencers that truly understand significance.  And of course, any time my name is mentioned along side of Peter Drucker's (1990 CMA Award recipient) I consider it a great honor.  Peter has been an integral part of my life and the work which this award salutes-so walking in his footsteps is thrill for me.  All of the past winners of this award are code-breakers who have added so much to our world-this is a humbling experience."

Buford, former chairman and CEO of Texas-based Buford Television, Inc., a large network of cable systems, which he sold in 1999, launched Leadership Network (www.leadnet.org) in 1984.  This innovative network serves as a resource broker that supplies information to and connects leaders of innovative churches.  "The emerging new paradigm of the 21st century church," says Buford, "calls for the development of new tools and resources as well as the equipping of a new type of 21st century church leader, both clergy and laity."

Buford is also the author of four books: best-selling Halftime: Changing Your Game Plan from Success to Significance, Game Plan, Stuck in Halftime, and his latest, Finishing Well: What People Who REALLY Live Do Differently.  The "Halftime" movement (www.halftime.org) has fueled a revolution of service and innovation among men and women who are focusing on God's plan for the "second half" of their lives.

Buford was also the founder and initial chairman of the board of the Peter F. Drucker Foundation for Nonprofit Management, now named the Leader to Leader Institute (www.pfdf.org).

The 2005 CMA Award presentation will be made at Monday evening's keynote session at CMA Long Beach 2005, on April 25. Buford is the 26th person to receive Christian Management Association's highest honor.
